Skudai, January 1st: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) marks the coming of 2010 by signing a preliminary understanding with Hebei University, China in a ceremony held at the main meeting room, UTM Skudai on 1st of January, 2010.
Wang and Azraai exchanging documents after the signing ceremony The documents were signed by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics & International) Prof. Ir. Dr. Azraai Kassim on behalf of UTM and the Vice President of Hebei University, Prof. Wang Jun Xiang.
Azraai in his welcoming speech said that UTM is very excited to work with Hebei University which offers a variety of courses covering a wide range of fields, including Philosophy, Economics, Law. Edication, Literature, History, Science and Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Management.
"We believe that UTM's strengths in engineering and life sciences as well as management and social sciences will complement Hebei University’s quest to train their academic staff at the post graduate level. UTM intends to increase its postgraduate students from 35 percent student population at the moment to 50 percent by 2010.
“We would like to take this opportunity to invite more academic staff from Hebei University to come and study in UTM,” Azraai further added.
Meanwhile in his statement, Prof. Wang said that the understanding will bring the two universities closer as both universities have a long history of working together.
“We have many similar areas of interest as Hebei University is the only comprehensive university in the region with a diversity of courses,” Prof. Wang Said.
