Skudai, December 4th: UTM will expand its collaboration in R&D in other fields, said the UTM Vice Chancellor Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang in his office during a visit from the Vice President Kiswire Malaysia, a Korean Cable manufacturing company based in Johor, Park Chang Hee.
He said to date, the nature of collaboration between Kiswire and UTM has been limited to student industrial training, R&D and as an advisory body for UTM curriculum development.
In the discussion, Park said Kiswire will setup an R&D unit in its Johor division next month which would encourage cooperation that will benefit both parties.
He said with the establishment of the R&D division, there will be a much bigger pool of Korean experts in various fields of expertise, of which UTM can take advantage of in encouraging more collaboration in conducting research for both the academic staff and students.
In the process, more transfer of technology can take place which will not only benefit UTM as an institution of higher learning but also the country in general.
The huge pool of Korean community in Johor can act as the link in attracting more students from Korea to further their studies in UTM.
Right now in Johor itself there are more than 13 Korean restaurants offering Korean traditional cuisines. Besides that there is also the Korean Association in Johor which right now has more than 400 members.
